Rise of A Kingpin's Wife Sneak Peek

Chapter One

Shade opened her eyes and put her hand against the top of her head.  It was pounding where she had gotten hit, and her vision was still a bit blurry.  She slowly sat up, focusing on something laying on the floor.  It was dark, so it made it even harder to see.  Shade closed her eyes, and began to count slowly as she massaged her temples.  The pain in her head was excruciating, but it seemed to be the least of her worries.

Shade opened her eyes once more, focusing on her watch.  She stared at it until her vision began to clear up.  She hit a button, turning on the small light it has on top of it to see if it gave off enough illumination for her to see.  She looked around, noticing she was somewhere in a basement.  She could see a washer and dryer, a sink, and a door in the back of the room.  She held up her watch to see if she could find a light.  There was a bulb with a string hanging down from it, so she got up off the couch heading towards it, when she tripped over something laying in the middle of the floor.

“What the fuck,” said Shade, sliding around on the floor.  “I must have knocked something over.”  She kept walking, feeling her feet mush around on something.  “This feels gross whatever the fuck it is.”

Shade hit the button again, and held it up to the ceiling.  She saw a long string hanging from a light fixture, so she pulled it.  The light came on causing Shade to shield her eyes from the brightness.  She turned her head, and noticed a dead body laying on the floor.  “Shit!” she shouted staring at it.  There were bloody foot prints tracked to where she was standing.  “I can’t believe I got blood on my new Jordans,” said Shade looking at the bottom of her shoe.  “And, who the fuck is this laying on the floor, cause it sure ain’t the motherfucker who hit me in my head.”  Shade looked around the room trying to see if she would be able to open the door, but it was barricaded closed of course.  And, it wouldn’t make sense to walk up the steps, because only a dumb ass would leave that door unlocked.  Shade looked back over at the dead body.

“I guess I need to find out who the dead motherfucker is laying on the floor,” said Shade reaching into her pockets.  “Damn!  They took my knife,” she said.  “But, they didn’t take my money.”  She pulled out the roll of money, taking one of the rubber bands off of it.  “I need to pull my hair out of my face if I’m going to go see who this dead man is.”  Shade grabbed the sides of her hair, pulling it back.  She wrapped the rubber band around her hair making a small ponytail.  Next, she took off her jacket and carried it over to the washing machine, putting it on top of the lid.  Shade looked over at the dead body, then over at the sink.  “I’m going to clean my shoes first.  But, it doesn’t make since to do it if I’m only going to walk back over there in all that blood.  She looked around the surrounding area to see if she could find a cloth or something.  She noticed a big box that said Summer Shoes.  “Let me see what’s in this box.”

Shade walked over to the box, and opened it.  There were random pairs of flip flops, high heels, and sandals inside.  She looked over at the dead body, then back at the shoes.  “I know what I’m going to do,” said Shade reaching into the box, pulling out a pair of stilettos.  “I can put these on to walk over there, then clean my shoes off.”

Shade quickly ran over to the sink and pulled off her Jordans.  She turned on the water and continued to look for a towel.  She opened up the dryer, and grabbed a t-shirt out of it.  She quickly went back over to the sink and ran it under the water.  She rang it out, then commenced to wiping off her shoes.  She heard a loud noise, sounding like a door slamming, so she turned off the water and stood still for a moment.  She heard bits of a muffled conversation, then a car door slam.  She waited to hear another one, and it came shortly after.  Shade checked the walls to see if there were any windows, but they all were blacked out.  The car started, and the radio was blasting Mary J. Blige’s, I’m Not Gone Cry , the same song Tia was playing when the strange man jumped in the car.

“Where the fuck is Tia?” questioned Shade grabbing the stilettos off the top of the washing machine.  She put them on her feet, and looked down shaking her head.  “This bitch must be big foot.”  Shade moved quickly over to the body.  She walked up on the right side of him, because that was the way his face was turned.  As Shade leaned over, and looked at the face of the body, she grabbed her mouth and took several steps back.

“Anthony!” she gasped, clutching her mouth.  “What the fuck?”
